In response to the growth in demand for professionals trained in the theory and practical applications of telecommunications and information technology, IT2 established unique academic degree programs offered and managed by academic units across the College of Engineering and computing.

FIU offers unique graduate degrees in response to the growth in demand for trained professionals in the theory and practical applications of telecommunications and information technology. These educational programs blend core competencies, cutting-edge curriculum, and research across the multidisciplinary spectrum of networking, communications, and management and simultaneously stimulate and develop creative thinking, a professional attitude, economic judgment and environmental consciousness of students. The aim is to develop the student's potential to the fullest, to prepare them for superior performance in the telecommunications and information technology industry.

Bachelor of Science Programs with Networking & Security Concentrations

Our ABET-accredited computer engineering and electrical engineering programs emphasize engineering concepts and design in the varied and rapidly expanding field of computer engineering. Students can choose from network security, cybersecurity, and many more tracks to become experts in the fields they aim to persue. More information can be found on the ECE website.

Additionally, FIU is the first university in the nation to provide a Bachelor of Science in Internet of Things for students who aim to gain expertise in the following four pillars: hardware, software, wireless communications and cybersecurity & privacy. Further details can be found on here.

Accelerated Combined Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering and Master of Science in Telecommunications and Networking Program

Graduates of this program earn a Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering and a Master's Degree in Telecommunications and Networking at the same time. Students who have completed a minimum of 75 credit hours towards their BS degree may apply to the combined BS/MS (4+1) program. Up to 9 credits may count for both the undergraduate and graduate degree programs.

Master of Science in Telecommunications & Networking Program

This program is the first of its kind in Florida, and one of only a few throughout the U.S. This multidisciplinary program provides a perfect blend of telecommunications, networking and management courses. It also highlights the active integration of technological advances and industry-related issues in the students' preparation.

The degree offers 5 focus tracks, each tailored to what is required to advance in one's professional field:

  • Business Focus Track
  • Communications Focus Track
  • Software Focus Track
  • Security Focus Track
  • Wireless and Sensor Network Focus Track

Additionally, students in the Engineering Management program may choose a telecommunication track from the engineering tracks from the College of Engineering and Computing.

Doctor of Philosophy in Computer Science with a concentration in Telecommunications and Networking Program

The Ph.D. program in Electrical Engineering with a Telecommunications and Networking concentration, prepares graduates for academic or industrial research in several ares, including computer networks, security, network centric middleware and communications.

KFSCIS offers a Ph.D. degree where students with a focus on telecommunications and networking can opt for the TCN-based core curriculum with the approval of their major advisors. Further details are available at the CIS website.
